There have been ongoing discussions about the toxicity of beauty and hygiene products and how they are affecting our health. Some of us live with autoimmune problems or sensitivities that make it difficult to find the right products that work best for us.
I’ve been dealing with an autoimmune disease for about three years and I’m on a journey to heal but in the meantime, it’s been difficult to find the right products. I’ve had problems with fragrances, PEG, and many other ingredients. I completely understand those who are dealing with any sort of chemical sensitivities because I’m going through it myself.
After plenty of research and trying to find the right products I’ve come up with a list to help those who need it the most. Everyone is different but I hope that these products will help you as they have helped me. I would still highly recommend looking at the ingredients especially, if you have a very severe autoimmune disease or sensitivity. I care about my readers and I wouldn’t want anyone to fall ill with any of my recommendations. If you’re still in doubt you can always ask your physician.
With that being said, I’m so excited to show you what I’ve used and how affordable it is to buy these types of products!
Best Natural Beauty Products
Soaps
I’m starting with soaps because it was really hard to apply on shampoos early on with my disease. After all, I was so sensitive to everything. For those who are really sensitive, I would recommend any products that only have a maximum of two ingredients. For those who are not sensitive to anything but want products that have quality ingredients, these are still great options for you too!
Tallow soap, oatmeal soap, honey soap, and goat’s milk soap are such great soaps to use when you notice that your skin has become sensitive to chemicals. These soaps provide the nutrients and probiotics to build up your skin microbiome.
Shampoos
Shampoos can be tricky because many of them have fragrances. Some of the best shampoos are anything that has honey, oatmeal, or has either a light fragrance to no fragrance.
I started testing these out very gently until my body and hair got used to them. Anything that has very few ingredients or has ingredients that you understand is a great way to reduce the toxicity in your daily life. I know when I started it I felt weird because it was as if I was being limited to the point of no return. Now, I find it as if it was the greatest thing that has ever happened to me because I’ve never felt this healthy in my entire life.
Makeup
As for makeup, I use the same method. I always try to choose ingredients that help reduce redness or it’s a product that has been a long-time staple, especially when choosing foundation makeup. I don’t try any new types of formulas or products.
When looking into powder or foundation applicators or brushes make sure that you will constantly wash off the makeup from the applicators. We don’t want bacteria growing on the applicators and getting on your skin. This is so important for people with sensitive skin.
There is so much more makeup everywhere than there was ten years ago. The alternatives are all there even the affordable ones. I also know that the higher the price tag the better the quality but I would suggest more affordable natural brands like Burts Bees, Honest Beauty, and Pacifica.
Deodorants
Deodorants are pretty easy to find but it all depends on how much you perspire. I used to use strong deodorants that had a lot of aluminum to help me with this issue but I was getting incredibly sick. Now, I use much lighter and natural deodorants and I always make sure to wear cotton shirts the majority of the time I’m at home. If I’m going out then I wear what I want but I make sure I take my deodorant with me.
Any deodorants that have honey, chamomile, or oats are really good because they also tackle inflammation. I would say to focus on getting deodorants without aluminum. Metals are usually hard to leave the body thus making it hard on your organs and immune system.
Skincare
There are a lot of options for skincare but I heavily rely on foreign products. Any products made in South Korea, France, or even Japan.
A lot of the toxic ingredients that exist in the United States are banned in other countries so I would rather trust the products from other countries. I have tackled acne before and tried everything that was over-the-counter and nothing worked but once I switched to foreign products I started noticing much better results.
I double-cleanse my skin and I also use the Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil to remove any sebum filaments or blackheads. A great collage cream can not only help with firming up your skin but also help you restore any scarring.
